A short double-breasted jacket in a wool blend, built around a stand collar tall enough to button right up under the chin. The collar holds its own shape instead of folding over, which is what keeps the wind off the back of the neck on a cold walk. Two rows of buttons run down the front and the wide overlap behind them closes off the gap.
The body is cut boxy with an easy shoulder, so it goes over a sweater without pulling across the back. Buttoned tabs sit at the shoulder and again at the cuff, taking up the slack around the arm when you want the sleeve closer. The side pockets are set into the seam and deep enough to be worth using. It stops at the hip, which is what makes it sit as well over trousers as it does over jeans.
