A long double-breasted coat cut clean, with a notched lapel that sits flat and a front that laps well across the body before it buttons. There is no belt and no hardware beyond the buttons themselves, so the shape comes entirely from the cut: the shoulder held straight, the body falling narrow from the chest and carrying on past the knee.
The cloth is smooth and matte with enough body to hold that line rather than cling to it. Welt pockets are set into the seam at the chest and low on the hip, so they take nothing away from the silhouette and still hold a phone and keys. It goes over a knit and jeans as readily as over tailoring, and the length means the coat covers the whole outfit instead of stopping short at the hip and leaving you to explain the rest. It is a plain coat in the best sense, and plain is what keeps it wearable well past one winter.
